Raising Grasscutter

Students at the Bishop
Forson School will soon be learning how to raise a small animal in
the guinea pig and porcupine family called 'grasscutter'. The
children all know this animal, because it is an important protein source
in Ghana. Unfortunately, the animal is often hunted illegally and through
dangerous means. Hunting
grasscutter poses serious environmental problems, as grasslands are set
on fire to drive the animals out. These
fires can get out of control and also burn homes and do other damage.
Raising grasscutter at the school will prove educational and also provide food for the children. As the program grows, it may become a sustainable income source for the school.
Through targeted fundraising, Pagus:Africa is providing start-up funds and oversight for this exciting project.
